Don't Rush When you Brush!

Rushing through your brushing routine could be putting your teeth at risk. It is recommended that we brush our teeth at least two times per day, morning and night, but if you’re brushing for any less than two minutes, then you may as well not be brushing at all!

Check out our tips below to achieve a perfect brush:

  • It’s all in the wrist! - When brushing, get that wrist moving in a circular motion and avoid the back and forth approach which can cause abrasions along your teeth and gum recession. Brush each quadrant at a time, start with your upper left-hand side first then move onto the upper right-hand side and don’t forget about the inside of your mouth and teeth!

  • Give your tongue some lovin’ - Remember to brush your tongue or use a tongue scrapper every time you brush to remove the bacteria from the surface of your tongue.

  • Don’t rinse: No rinsing? You heard us! When you’ve finished brushing, spit out the toothpaste and try not to rinse. It may feel unusual but by doing this you leave the toothpaste on your teeth giving the fluoride more time to soak into your teeth, helping them become stronger and healthier!

  • Electric toothbrush user? We haven’t forgotten you: Your technique only changes slightly, instead of circular motions, give the toothbrush time on each tooth, moving from one tooth to the next, to do the work for you!

Changing your toothbrush regularly is just as important as any of our tips above. Toothbrushes should last, in general, three months at a time. If your toothbrush isn’t lasting that long, this might be because you’re pushing too hard. This can damage the enamel on your teeth, creating more issue than brushing prevents. When the bristles on your brush start to spread, then it’s time to throw that one away and get yourself a new one!
